Australian Society of Authors (ASA) Mentorship winners announced

The ASA has announced the 15 successful applicants for its mentorship program in 2010-11.

The program’s judges were Gabrielle Carey, Sue Gough, Fiona McGregor, David Musgrave, Tohby Riddle and ASA Executive Director, Angelo Loukakis.

Speaking on behalf of the judges, Mr Loukakis said: “There’s a lot of enthusiasm for a program that offers support to up and coming writers, many of whom are unpublished and therefore not always eligible to apply for grants and other forms of assistance. We were delighted, after long deliberations, to award mentorships to 15 writers of great promise. They will have the opportunity to develop their manuscripts with guidance from some of the country’s most distinguished writers and editors.”

Mr Loukakis thanked all applicants for their interest in this highly competitive program, noting that decisions were based entirely on the literary merit of submissions.

Selected from 219 eligible entries, the 15 successful applicants will have the opportunity to work closely with a mentor of their choice for 30 hours over a period of up to 12 months.
