Like a dog returning to his own vomit Benito returns to the Friend In Hand Hotel, where he co-hosted Sydney's Premiere Spoken Word and Poetry night Bardflys for a decade before penning the hit show "The Chronic Ills of Robert Zimmerman, aka Bob Dylan (A Lie)" which reviewers variously referred to as a tour-de-force of neologistic neo-beatnik magic realism (whatever that may mean.)
On Tuesday September 7th Benito is dusting off the spoken word, poetry and tragicomic travelogues that made him what he delusionally believes he is today. To add coconut to this this poetic lamington Benito has roped in legendary Bardflys band leader John "Mad-Axe" Maddox (Peppermint Tea, Gauche, Mr Bamboo) to underpin him on bass and kazoo in a comeback show that will make Led Zeppelin at Wembley look like a Wiggles gig...
Anyway, here's what some cats have said about Benito:
- “Di Fonzo has hit the nail on the head… where other contemporary poets have missed the mark.” - Cordite poetry magazine.
“Go, go go! Do not miss this show! Benito Di Fonzo has a decidedly twisted view of existence which only serves to feed the madness of this quirky show.” Arts Hub, 2009.
“Benito di Fonzo's ... stream of consciousness is fun ... a particular crowd pleaser."” Tim Lloyd – The Advertiser
“The musical accompaniment is outstanding in it’s subtlety and effectiveness.” – Troy Foster – Rip It Up!
“like roller skating without stoppers through your Great Aunt’s wedding” 3RRR Melbourne.
