Five Bells is a significant quarterly journal published by the Poets Union to stimulate poetry discussion and debate through articles and essays on poetry issues and developments.

The June issue of Australian Book Review June 2009 No. 312 ($9.95) has a terrific review by Lisa Gorton of the new format Five Bells - a double issue consisting of Vol 15 Part No 4 & Vol 16 No 1 Spring/Summer 2008/2009

The review itself is part of a dialogue with and about contemporary Australian poetry. Lisa notes that the articles in this issue“ keep the liveliness of face-to-face encounter and reflect each poet’s individual style”.

This new format Five Bells (in book rather than magazine form) has been followed by another double edition, Vol 16 Nos 2 & 3 - Autumn/Winter 2009 and hot off the press and just sent to members is Vol 16 No 4 - Spring 2009.
