Details: Woollahra Library is calling all bush balladeers and reciters of romance to take part Dead Poets Day as part of National Poetry Week. Locals can participate in this celebration of well-loved and classic poetry by either reciting their favourite poem by a dead poet or by just sitting back in the audience and enjoying the classics. Well known local Darel Hughes will be the MC and the readings will be followed by light refreshments. BROADWAY SLAM 2006
RESULTS!
After 6 superb heats at Parramatta, Balmain, Newcastle, Surry Hills, Glebe and Broadway, the 18 finalists were found and brought to the final stage of the competition. In the popcorn-lit world of Hoyts' Cinema Seven, the stage was spotlighted and so made way for an evening of performance poetry. Each poet puffing their peacock plumage with individual style and finesse.

The event was enjoyed by all and we thank the Poets Union and The Broadway

In 2006, events include Funny Bone poems and satiric verse, slams and Centenary Words, Between the Valley and the Sea readings and Between Inspiration and Desperation workshops. Details: National Poetry Week special edition of Poetry at the Pub. Poetry at the Pub was started in Merimbula two years ago to celebrate National Poetry Week, and continues to bring poets out of the closet.
If you like performing your poems, you'll love the Poetry Slam. Contestants have just one minute to impress the judges - then they'll either be eliminated or go on to the next round. Last poet standing is the winner.
Poetry Tag is gentler sport - bring a sheaf of favourite poems with you so that you can seize the opportunity to share them. A spontaneous affair, requiring only a tenuous connection between the poem just read, and the one you'd like to read.

Details: Visiting Artist, Anna Jarrett has been working with Mogo School students towards a spoken word celebration combining poetry, storytelling, drama and music. The project was proposed by a group of parents who were interested in broadening their children's cultural experiences and connecting a new arts activity with the literacy curriculum. The focus is on original material created by a core group of students who are mostly in Year 5 & 6.
The performance will be a culmination of a series of workshops including a storytelling show to all students, classroom visits to discuss poetry and stories, a creative professional workshop for teachers, classroom workshops to develop an understanding of the spoken word, create original themes and work on some essential performance skills. We welcome all the community to come along and celebrate with us. Free admission.

Details: Leeton poet Sarah Tiffen¹s second collection Mythica (Ginninderra
Press) continues to probe the spiritual and social themes revealed in her
first book, Learning Country: Song Cycles from the Heartland. Stories of her
home country, in the western plains of New South Wales, reveal a powerful
response to place and a visceral sense of nostalgia, landscape and love.
